The Biology section is one of the preclinical departments that supports the improvement of academic abilities and skills of medical faculty students in the skills of using a microscope and recognizing plant cells and animal cells.
The Biology section also serves nursing biology practicum from the nursing faculty. Students are expected to be able to understand the importance of cellular biology and be able to understand and explain biology at a more complex level, namely at the level of cell development. Later, students will learn the basics of genetic material (DNA and chromosomes), gene expression, transport between cells, and the stages in which cells can group and develop to form a network.
Students are also expected to be able to explain the processes and stages of spermatogenesis and oogenesis as well as the processes of proliferation (mitosis) and meiosis that occur in human sex organs, the mechanism of embryo formation and development, as well as the processes of gene mutations and chromosomal abnormalities. So that the learning material is expected to support the competencies that must be possessed by a doctor in accordance with the Indonesian Doctor Competency Standards.
The teaching staff of this section are involved in teaching and learning activities in biology courses for first year students. The practicum was carried out in the Biomolecular laboratory. The staff of the biology section consists of 1 section head, namely Drs. Zulfitri, M.Biomed who also serves as educational coordinator, one teaching staff, namely Saslina Fitri, S.Si., M.Biomed, one laboratory assistant, namely Putri Julina, SKM who also takes care of the administration of the biology section and laboratory technician, namely zulkifli.
