Professional Education of Cardiology and Blood Vessel Specialists (SPJP) in Indonesia began with the establishment of the Indonesian Cardiology Association (PERKI) on November 16, 1957 by dr. Gan Tjong Bing (an Internal Medicine Cardiologist who completed his studies in the Netherlands). He observed developed countries at that time that the prevalence of heart and blood vessel disease (cardiovascular) continued to increase, and was predicted to be the main cause of death in the world. Therefore, in Europe the education of cardiologists developed into a separate specialist education. Furthermore, to support cardiovascular services, PERKI started medical education for Sp.JP in Indonesia, the country with the largest population in Southeast Asia.
Heart and Blood Vessel Science in modern times is now a branch of specialization in medicine that studies cardiology (Heart Disease) and vascular (Blood Vessel) studies related to the study of heart failure, coronary heart disease, heart rhythm disorders to congenital (congenital) ). The rate of development of this disease is very rapid.
The Heart and Blood Vessel Section of the Faculty of Medicine, Syiah Kuala University/Dr. Zainoel Abidin Hospital (FK USK-RSUDZA) was established in 2004 at the RSUD dr. Zainoel Abidin where the head of the first section was held by dr. Rusmunandar, Sp.JP-FIHA with 2 (two) staff. As time goes by, until 2022 the staff of the Heart and Blood Vessel Section has numbered 10 (ten) people. To support the learning and teaching process, the Heart and Blood Vessel study program has skilled staff from various sub-fields of heart and blood vessel science and has a high dedication to the world of education.

On November 09, 2017 the Minister of Research, Technology and Higher Education of the Republic of Indonesia through Decree No.4275/A4.1/HK/2017 On November 9, 2017 established the Faculty of Medicine, Syiah Kuala University as the official organizer of the 13th Cardiac and Blood Vessel Specialist Education Study Program in Indonesia. Based on the Decree of the Minister of Research, Technology and Higher Education of the Republic of Indonesia, the USK Chancellor held a selection exam for the first PPDS Cardiac and Blood Vessel Candidates of USK Medical Faculty on November 18-23 2017. The Heart and Blood Vessel Section which is currently headed by dr. Muhammad Muqsith, Sp.JP(K)-FIHA with Study Program Coordinator Prof. Dr.dr. Teuku Heriansyah, Sp.JP(K)-FIHA, FESC, FAsCC is committed to providing the best services, education, and research with a vision and mission that is in accordance with the spirit of the Acehnese earth.
