Science of Nutrition


The Department of Nutrition is part of the Faculty of Medicine, Unversitas Syiah Kuala, and currently has 5 lecturers and 1 education staff. All teaching staff have master's qualifications and or specialist doctors-1. The Nutrition Science Section of the Faculty of Medicine, Syiah Kuala University is actively involved in realizing the vision of the Faculty of Medicine, Syiah Kuala University, which is to become an Excellent, Competitive, Innovative faculty through the Synergy of All Potentials for Development and Quality Improvement of Education, Research, and Community Service in the fields of Medicine, Health and Disasters at the global level in 2025. All activities carried out by the Nutrition Science Division are the embodiment of the faculty's mission, one of which is realized through the implementation of the tridharma of education.

In the field of education and teaching, the Nutrition Science Section is involved in the learning process at the academic stage in the Medical Education Study Program, as well as at the professional stage in the Doctor Profession Study Program. In addition, several lecturers in the Nutrition Sciences Division are also lecturers in the Specialist 1 Doctoral Education Program. In the field of research, the Nutrition Science Division participates in the implementation of research both within the university environment, as well as through cooperation on a national and international scale. The research themes of the Nutrition Science Section in the last 5 years have mainly been on stunting, nutrition and metabolism, nutrition and infection, nutrition on malignancy and disaster nutrition. Publications of the lecturers have been published in national and international journals. All staff of the USK Medical Faculty's Nutrition Science Section are also actively involved in community service, as a form of real contribution in helping to solve nutritional problems in the community. The staff of the Nutrition Science Division also provide clinical nutrition services at dr. Zainoel Abidin Banda Aceh, which is a provincial-level referral hospital.
