Alumni of the Faculty of Medicine, Syiah Kuala University, Imam Maulana, won a Gold Medal in the Speak Up and Academic Presentation Competition at the Asia World Muslim Summit 2024 in Kuala Lumpur - Saturday, March 23 2024.

This is the second gold medal he presented after previously winning a gold medal at the National Student Science Week (PIMNAS) in 2019 in Bali.

He received the gold medal after presenting his community service program, namely the Youth Health Education Park (TaKasi-Sera) as a Youth Health Peer-Educator Training and Caderization Center by and for teenagers.

One of the TaKasi-SeRa that Imam and the Nanggroe Aceh Education Generation (GEN-A) team formed is in Gampong Jawa which focuses on educating about the dangers of smoking and preventing diseases transmitted by mosquito vectors. Other TaKasi-Sera initiations were carried out at the Media Kasih Orphanage which focuses on first aid for accidents (P3K), and the Yakesma Orphanage with a focus on Family Medicinal Plant Farming (TOGA). This innovation project was successful in receiving support from the Indonesian Ministry of Health and UNICEF Indonesia.

"The concept of TaKasi-SeRa was inspired by Darul Arqam during the time of Rasulullah SAW which became the first Islamic madrasa to study and broadcast the knowledge gained," explained Imam Maulana, an alumni of the Faculty of Medicine, Syiah Kuala University.

Imam Maulana (Executive Director of GEN-A) in his speech emphasized that Indonesia needs the role of young people, especially Muslims, to become agents of change, especially in the social and health fields. He explained 3 big problems in Indonesia, namely first, the number of Indonesian child smokers is ranked 2nd in the world with a population of more than 3.2 million. Second, Indonesia has an emergency regarding sexual harassment and violence against children with a figure of more than 10,000 cases. Third, cases of children dying from dengue fever continue to increase.

"This work does not belong to me personally, but is the result of joint action with friends who have been steadfast all this time in serving the community," added Imam Maulana, an inspirational alumnus who graduated without KKN and a thesis.

Imam Maulana was appointed as Asia Muslim Ambassador 2024. The Asia World Muslim Summit is an event for selecting and training Asia Muslim Ambassadors which is held every year. With a total of 40 people, the participants came from Uzbekistan, Pakistan, India, Nepal, Thailand, the Philippines, Malaysia and Indonesia. It is hoped that the ambassadors can continue to spread benefits and become role models in accordance with the mandate of the Islamic religion, namely to become a person who is rahmatan lil alamin.
